Snacka Changi Chips

Vinegar and Salt is the one that sells. The vinegar is sharper than most people expect and the chip underneath is kettle fried, so it is thick and hard rather than light.

Snacka Changi Chips Salted Kettle Fried Potato Chips, Vinegar & Salt Kettle Fried Potato Chips and Great Uncle Kenny Fried Chicken Potato Chips, photographed together on dark slate

Great Uncle Kenny Fried Chicken is the flavour that confuses visitors. Chicken chips are normal here and almost unheard of anywhere else. Kettle Fried Sour Cream, Chive and Onion is the third, and there is a plain Salted for people who want the potato without the argument. The slices go into hot oil in batches rather than running through a fryer. That is why the chip is harder and the bag is heavier than a standard supermarket one, and why the flavour sits on a thicker crisp.

Snacka Changi has never been sold widely outside New Zealand. If you want these you are ordering them in, which is exactly why they turn up in so many parcels.

Chips are light for their size, so they fill a box of snacks without taking it past the first 2 kg.

Chips take up room without adding much weight, which suits a box built out of the snack aisle.
